WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A local non-profit released balloons Saturday to raise awareness for cancer. EmPOWERment In PINK is a group of cancer survivors who show their support in multiple ways to the Wilmington community. The group provides assistance to medical appointments, helps to pay patient bills, and spreads awareness. President Cynthia Simpson, and two-time cancer survivor, said the group’s hands-on approach is to provide cancer patients with as much help as possible. “We want them to know that they are not alone,” Simpson. “We are here to support them as well as to let them know that we can beat this.” The event also featured food and entertainment all free to the public.
